Station Motif

Bat pattern

This pattern represents a colony of bats in flight. Many works have made use of the bat motif since the Edo period (1603-1868), due to the positive connotation that the word "bat" (komori) has as a synonym for "child protection."
In China, bats are also a popular design element as the second character in the word "bat" sounds very similar to the word for "good fortune."
