Constructed in Ariake 1-chome, Koto-ku, Tokyo, as a competition venue for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Domestic Japanese cedar was used extensively for the ceiling and walls, making it the largest use of domestic wood among the 2,300m3 of facilities to be developed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. During the Olympic and Paralympic Games, it was used as a venue for volleyball and wheelchair basketball.
On August 22, 2022, it is reopening as a next-generation integrated entertainment facility to be operated by a private company on a concession basis.
Since its reopening, the venue has been fostering a vibrant sports culture by hosting world-class events like boxing and basketball, while also promoting the arts through concerts featuring top-tier performers.
