Station Motif
Willow stripe pattern
This striped abstract pattern is meant to represent willow leaves. Willow tress have been a familiar sight to Japanese people since ancient times, believing that the tree brings good luck.
In the so-called "Flower Calendar" used during the Edo period (1603-1868), willows represented the 11th month. The other plants used for the calendar were pine (1st month), plum (2nd month), cherry (3rd month), wisteria (4th month), iris (5th month), peony (6th month), bush clover (7th month), pampas grass (8th month), chrysanthemum (9th month), maple (10th month), and paulownia (12th month).
