Station Motif
Blue sea wave pattern
This pattern is meant to represent a type of wave that was named after the "Blue sea wave" (seigai-ha) dance costumes that were used during the Heian period (794-1185).
During the Edo period (1603-1868), lacquerware artist Kanshichi used this pattern in most of his works during the Genroku era (1688-1704), earning him the nickname of "Seigai Kanshichi". The pattern became very fashionable during this era, and can be found on all types of craft ware from this period.
