Announcement: Commemorating the 170th Year of the Black Ships’ Arrival with the Grand Reveal of “Commodore Perry’s Expedition to Japan”!

This year of 2023 marks the 170th anniversary of the "arrival of the Black Ships," which occurred on the 3rd day of the 6th month of the 6th year of Kaei (8th July, 1853). Notably, in the course of last year's documentation organization, an original copy of the American official record of the "arrival of the Black Ships" - "Commodore Perry's Expedition to Japan" (published in 1856) - was discovered among the transferred books from the former Japan Ship Promotion Association Library. It has now been formally registered as a document.

We will hold a mini exhibition to introduce this new acquisition, along with displaying related materials from our collection.
